I haven't written about my cochlear implant in a while so I thought I would post an update. I have made some real progress with it over the last few months. I was picking up a lot of background noise that was driving me batty, so when I had the remap session yesterday I had her change the sensativity. It seems better today.

I still struggle in noisy environments but I think I am doing pretty good in quieter settings. Music still does not sound so great to me. The audiologist says this is pretty normal and it will take longer for my brain to process the music just because it is more complexed than voices. She did make a special program that is supposed to make music sound better and it did seem to sound a little better when we tested it in her office.

Right now, I am really more interested in becoming more proficient with understanding speech. So I am not too concerned about the music, although I do miss having music in my life. I have come so far since last year, when I first started this long journey.

Hope you are all having a blessed week. Say a little prayer for my hubby as he is sick with a sinus infection and not feeling so well. Time for darling daughter to get off the school bus so I better go! Blessings!

Glad to hear you're pleased with the progress. My dad has had two ear surgeries and before the last one they said a cochlear implant might be an alternative if they couldn't save his hearing. I think it's fascinating!

My "lack of" hearing any more has really been bothering me. Age related, I'm sure, although maybe some residuals from too loud bands and music. It's worse in my left ear, which is the ear I use when talking on the phone and don't know if I could get used to using my right one or not.

I'm glad your hearing is getting better and I hope they can get all of the kinks worked out. And I'm glad to hear the update.

I've been missing Tammany Oaks a bunch and think I'm going to have to go over one Sunday real soon for worship.

I just said a prayer for your husband. Hope he's feeling better.

Thanks for the update! I so appreciate your positive attitude! I am so thankful you believe you are better than you were when you had the implant! I pray the remapping does improve your hearing even MORE!!!

Hello! I just *found* your blog and am glad I did! I, too, struggle with background noise. Even hearing persons have trouble with background noise. But, it does get better with time. I try to find quiet restaurants to go to and sit in booths with my CI ear facing the wall or away from the "crowd." I look forward to reading your *story!*
